Home & Renovation Electrical FAQ

Wondering if you need to upgrade your switchboard during renovation? Our FAQ explains when it’s necessary for safety, compliance, and supporting modern appliances.

Early in the planning stage.
Engaging an electrician during layout design avoids issues with switch placement, load balancing, and smart tech wiring. We also need access before walls are sheeted for rough‑in cabling, which happens quickly after framing.

Rough‑in” is the stage where electrical cables are run inside walls, ceilings, and floors—before plastering.
It allows for:

  • Safe concealment
  • Clean finish (no exposed conduit)
  • Easier smart wiring and speaker/audio zones

All rough-ins must follow AS/NZS 3000 clearances from water, gas, and structural elements.

Yes.
As per AS/NZS 3000:2018 Clause 2.6.3.2, all final subcircuits supplying socket outlets, lighting, or fixed wired appliances require RCD protection.
We install RCBOs (breaker + RCD combo) on new circuits during renovations.

Yes—but they must be physically separated by a minimum 50mm or use shielded conduit as per AS/NZS 3000 Clause 3.9.8.
This prevents EMI (electromagnetic interference) from disrupting your network performance.
We follow structured cabling rules and use Cat6A where needed.

Absolutely.
We install:

  • Dedicated solar supply conduits to the main board
  • 32A EV-ready circuits or flexible draw tails in garages
This makes future upgrades faster and cheaper—no wall chasing or rework.

Yes—always.
All fixed-wired appliances must be installed by a licensed electrician, with a Certificate of Electrical Compliance issued. This is required under Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991 (WA).

Fit-off is the final stage where:

  • Lights, switches, and GPOs are installed
  • Appliances are connected
  • Circuit labels are added to the board
  • All safety checks are run (earth, polarity, insulation resistance)

You’ll see the home come to life—safely and efficiently.

We recommend:

  • Bedrooms: 2–3 doubles
  • Kitchens: 4–6 GPOs + USB outlets
  • Living areas: 3+ (TV, lamps, chargers)
  • Home offices: 4+ including data points

This also ensures AS/NZS 3000 spacing requirements for accessibility are met during builds.

Yes.
We work directly from your CAD or PDF electrical plans and can also recommend changes to improve:

  • Energy efficiency
  • Outlet location usability
  • Smart wiring prep
We can liaise with your builder to meet scheduling deadlines.

Often, yes.
If your renovation adds new circuits or increases load (e.g., electric oven, air-con), your board must:

  • Be RCD compliant
  • Have capacity for new breakers
  • Support modern surge protection and labelling

We assess this during quoting and include upgrade options if required.
